There are a wide variety of elements that constitute cinema in the digital age or, more broadly, a myriad of extensions and hybridisations that have diversified cinema from the unified singularity it has had for most of its history. Cinematic form of the current era spans an array of aesthetic, technical, developmental, economic, logistical and legal diversities.
Elephants Dream is a short film that encompasses all of these elements as a cinematic work distinctly of the digital era. Created under the Open-Movie Project, Elephants Dream is a collaboratively developed project based in the Netherlands that aimed to produce a 3D computer generated animated film using only Open-Source software tools and license the entire project under Creative Commons copyright.
